High Carbon Steel

As the ditches in my brain get deeper,
As the ditches in my brain get deeper,
As the ditches in my brain get deeper,
As the ditches in my brain get deeper,
As the ditches in my brain get deeper,
As the ditches in my brain get deeper,
As the ditches in my brain get deeper,
Folding the patterns of a man
I’m tempted to disown as being I
And what is mine is less than ever so
Or feels lesser than ever so as mine
I’m drowned in disarray.
There’s bound to be a safeguard
Or a lifeguard, or so they say,
I fail to see the line
Unsure, again, of my own agitations,
I was the same the day before,
I was the same the day before that,
I was the same the day before that,
I was the same the day before that,
I was the same the day before that,
I was the same the day before,
Yet here lies one specimen of man
The one I was a year ago
No longer gets to understand.

The stitches of the world unfold,
The stitches of the world dismantle,
The stitches of the world burst out,
The stitches of the world unravel,
The stitches of the world dissolve,
The stitches of the world — absorbed,
Letting the truths career their way out
The ditches in my brain, alas, won’t see me past
Stitches, a hundred and a few
To hold together every ditch
That every bitch who held the needle
Who copped the stitch, its third eye fingered
With threads of thoughts which were not mine
Might come again to tell me who I’m not and what is mine,
Might come again to tell me who I am, and that it’s nigh,
Might come again to tell me I’m either this or die,
Might come again to tell me this is not the time,
Might come again to tell me I’m not I,
Might dare to look me in the eye and tell me I’m another,
Yet what the snaketongue slithers saying
Is that the man she thought she bred
No longer is the same same guy
She thought she tamed.

Clutching the needle by the eye
Hurting both pointer and the thumb
With fingers getting really numb
And patience thin as silk-thread
I fail to see the point

Am I the metal?
The needle’s girth?
Anti-corrosive alloy,
High carbon steel
Or wood
Or bone
Or bones
And bones
And bones
And bones
And bones
And bones
